A signum Spei
{Chant Royale}

It was the day that Nature died,
Where all life lost all hope and dreams.
Naught but survival was relied,
And endless screams, and endless screams.
There was no light, there was no green,
Except a devastated scene.
Envisioned with volcanic fire
With Life thus held upon a wire
And really where else could you flee?
As there was nothing to desire,
Yet it had hope thus yet to see.

For on the Earth; things were denied
Such as the light of the moonbeam,
And deep down it clamoured and cried
Over its fate that it was deemed.
And along the dark water stream
The crystal clear showed showed not its scheme.
Yet the volcanic flames didn't tire
Over the bright eternal pyre
Then there is how it came to be
And where the fear was to inspire.
Yet it had hope thus yet to see.

So where the beauty was; it lied
Beneath the cave of cold and steam.
Where all the sand and rock was tried,
Through trial taken to extreme.
Yet there was growth within this theme
Where devastation made it seem
Like a dark pathway wrought with briars
That always grew, and ever higher
As like a never ending tree.
And how did Nature plan, conspire?
Yet it had hope thus yet to see.

How were those visions seen or scried
When every form of lava teemed.
How does the havoc coincide
When there is nothing that's redeemed?
This depredation harsh and mean,
As the wind blew icy and keen.
And all around it all was dire,
With little love thus to acquire,
In a place so wide and empty,
With naught of green in its attire:
Yet it had hope thus yet to see...

The desolation did abide,
Spiralled around this dark regime,
Of this hopeless, natural divide,
Lowering the Sun's own self-esteem...
Where did the Moon's own motives lean;
Or the Star's summons thus foreseen?
Within this dark event transpired
Of this dystopian land afire...
For yet somewhere, there laid a key,
Which opened a door thus required...
Yet it had hope thus yet to see.

Now to open wide an empire:
That's lush and wild; thus to admire.
With every river, stream and lee,
And realm noble; yet lost entire...
Yet it had hope thus yet to see.
